The plant tule looks kind of like the plant bedstraw. The bottom looks like tall grass. Only some of tules have small flowers. Of course, the bottom is green. But the top is not green it is lightish redish pink. Tule also, changes its color in different seasons.
Tules may grow abundantly along the marhy or marsh like areas. A tule can grow up to eight to ten feet tall if along steamsides. Tules can also, grow up to fifteen to twenty feet is marshshores or in lakeshores.
The plant tule is almost entirely edible. Like catail the tule´s roots, pollen, and seeds are edible. Some people say that tule is not quite good as, those on catail but, all respect there young roots.
Of course tule is so, helpful it is used as medicine. At times tule is used for chamash cured poison oak by putting burned tule on. Luiseno put plaster of tule on burns and wounds.
Tule was widley used by the Californa indians for making shelters, boats, and sleeping/sitting mats. For some of the groups like the Yokut- speaking popalations of the Southern San Joaquin Valley the roots of tule was a very very important sourse of flower.
